Plans are in the works for the Park 7 Apartments, a new 280-unit apartment complex that would be located outside the South Gates of the LSU campus. Park 7 Group, a New York-based firm that develops student housing around the country, has filed an application with the Planning Commission to rezone a 2.6-acre tract just south of Highland Road that will be the site of the complex, which will include a 749-space parking garage.
The property is bordered by West Parker Boulevard, East Boyd Drive, Swire Avenue and Dodson Avenue. Few other details about the proposed complex are available because the project is still in the planning stages. Brian Dantin of Dantin Bruce Development owns one of several tracts on which the project is to be built. He says no property has yet changed hands.
“There are still a lot of things up in the air,” Dantin says.
Park 7 Group has developed and managed a 16,000-bed student housing portfolio, according to its website. Duplantis Design Group is doing the design and engineering work on the project. Dallas-based Humphreys and Partners is the architect.
Also filed today with the Planning Commission: a rezoning request for Heritage Oaks on Highland Road, a proposed subdivision with 46 residential lots. The development would be located on the south side of Highland Road near Picou Lane. Lots would be between 6,000 and 10,000 square feet, according to documents filed with the Planning Commission.
So what do you think – is LSU getting over-saturated with student housing, or is this a response to the dwindling interest in Tigerland?
