Window Replacement – Time to Invest?

If your windows are more than 15 years old (as mine were), you may be putting up with draftiness and high energy bills.  Energy-efficient windows are becoming one of the best investments both for your energy-efficiency and value of your home.

HouseLogic.com states that replacement vinyl windows can recoup 78.7% of the project cost in added home value, which is a great ratio for home remodeling.  Based on homes in our area, that could be an extra $2,000-$4,000 of extra value!

Not only do you add value to your home, but also the energy savings can be immediate and the “pay-back” period for your cost is relatively short.  In the first full month since my new windows were installed, my energy bill dropped 11% – very impressive considering how hot June was!   With savings like that, I will have saved the entire cost of the windows in 16-18 months.

If you feel drafts while your windows are shut, now may be a good time to have them replaced with state-of-the-art vinyl windows.  I’ll even help you get started – after getting many quotes of my own, Window World’s $189 window deal is truly the best product for the value.

Progress We Can See – Update from Chris Loar

I recently had an email discussion with councilman Chris Loar about a number of things including the construction on LA Highway 42 in Prairieville.   Here is a blurb from him regarding several projects:

Hwy 42 – Clearing and grubbing underway and making good progress; utilities relocation and sewer installation beginning.  Then actual road construction likely will begin early next year.

Park Progress– Community center renovation and expansion to be completed by end of summer.  Doubled in size and completely overhauled inside and out (was falling apart).  Will be two rooms available for rent for birthday parties, events, etc.  Later this year, fence to be moved back, with trailer and abandoned house to be torn down and parking lot and park expanded back there.

Recycling – Just a reminder that two of our three waste vendors now offer this option after working with us, and I’d encourage interested residents to investigate further.

— Chris

After driving Hwy 42 multiple times everyday, it does seem like they are making quick progress on the sewer installation…although I was sad to see some of the big oaks get major trimming back or cut down altogether.   Regarding the park, the current parking lot will likely be cut in half from the Hwy 42 project, so the parish bought the house and trailer on the other side of the fence to make way fro more parking and park expansion.  This has been a long time coming – Chris deserves our hearty thanks for providing this park for our kids!

Support Chris in his campaign to be the new Ascension Parish President in next year’s election!  We are seeing the results of his efforts in front of our eyes.  Follow him on Twitter @chrisloar.
